Herbert Pettis, a loving husband and father, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024. He was born to Carl Pettis Sr and Lydia Etheridge Pettis on November 12, 1928, in Graceville, Florida.

Herbert, in his passing will join his wife Ruby Rudd Pettis, daughter Glenda Pettis Haught, and siblings Dutch Pettis, Carson Pettis, Irene Pettis Adkinson, Francis Pettis Beaudin, and Carl Pettis Jr.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son Tim Pettis and daughter Myra Pettis. His daughter-in-law also survived him, Donna Lewis Pettis; his four grandchildren: Nathan Pettis, Aaron Haught, Jordan Pettis, and Philip Haught; seven great-grandchildren: Emery Haught, Eloise Haught, Sawyer Pettis, Eli Pettis, Ethan Pettis, Camber Pettis and Mya Pettis.

Herbert and Ruby eloped on July 9, 1946, and had a very happy 73-year-long marriage. Herbert and Ruby’s love was a testament of steadfast devotion. One that will live on as a legacy for generations to come.

Herbert served in the Navy in 1946 and 1947. Trained to be a mechanic on the GI bill and eventually moved to Tampa to work for Schulstad Motor Company. He was incredibly loyal and remained with the company until the dealership was sold. Throughout his life, he volunteered his time to help build a few of the churches he attended. Herbert was always very involved in his church from serving as an usher, a Sunday School teacher, or as a handyman.

The service for Herbert will be a private service for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to LifePath Hospice, who provided care and support for nearly three years
