Immigrating to America in 1974, he worked for 42 years in the consulting engineering field in Baton Rouge as a Civil/Structural designer, retiring from H&K Engineering in 2016. His love for all things tropical included his Trop Rock choice of music and the joy of living at his condo in Feather Sound, Florida among the palm trees. Always looking for the humor in all things he lived his life with a positive attitude and will be deeply missed. Funeral Services will be held at Garden of Memories in Tampa, Florida. Very sorry to here of the passing of Bert. I first met Bert many years ago through Gary Regan and the Baton Rouge song writers asso. Had the pleasure of recording many hours of great original music at his home studio. I also enjoyed playing many live shows with Bert and " The Island fever band" as a fill in drummer for Animal. Never a dull moment with Bert. All my best to Janet and the family.

Bert Toms was never without a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He lit up a room and lifted the spirits of everyone he met.

The love that Bert and Janet shared was the most beautiful relationship between two people I have ever been fortunate enough to witness. They were definitely soul mates. Both Bert and Janet have a very special place in my heart and I am forever grateful for every kindness, every smile, every special moment spent in the presence of a Toms.

Have a beautiful voyage to wherever you are headed, Bert. You deserve beautiful sunrises and sunsets, great music, and the warmth of eternal love, old friend.

Dear Janet and all of the family especially Michelle, Sharon, Laura and Loretta ~ I wish I could be with you all to celebrate Bert's life. I can only imagine the music and memories you will all be sharing at his service. I'll be with you in spirit! Walk gently together and heal and live the life Bert would wish for you. He was a treasured husband, father, grandfather and friend. He's flying with the angels, I'm sure of that. Love and hugs from Colorado.

Sharon and family,
I have no words to express how deeply saddened I am for all of you during this time. Please know that I am praying hard for each of y’all now and in the coming days. The memories come flooding back to Shenandoah days, songs and laughter. From all the St. Patrick’s day wigs, crawfish boils and acoustic jam sessions. Bert was always there with the biggest smile on his face. He will always have special place in my heart because he gave me, Sharon and Michelle. They are sisters to me, Forever and always. Bert, the love you shared amongst your friends was like no other. Janet, just know that I am thinking of you. The two of you had a love that was inspiring on many levels!!! Love y’all so, so much!!

My dear Janet, I am so very sorry for this tremendous loss of your dear Bert. No more watches, but plenty of fond and touching memories with him. I'm sure you will write a very special photographic tribute to him. You both had something very special and rare. I love you and my heart aches for you. I pray that all of the kids, your brothers and family will be there for you just as you were there for Bert. God bless you all! Ellen
