Hilda was a 2nd generation Floridian, born in Miami. She attended Coral Gables High School and received her teaching degree from Florida Southern College. She spent the majority of her life as a teacher, whether at home or in a classroom, she was constantly teaching and being a “Mom” to more kids than her own. She reminded us all that “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think,” as Winnie the Pooh has said and like Tinkerbell, she sprinkled a little of her magic in every life she touched.
While a teacher at heart, nothing made her happier than being a grandmother to her four grandchildren. A Margarita on the rocks was her preferred cocktail, while listening to some of her favorite songs from Jimmy Buffet. When she was able to, she loved being involved with the local Tri Sigma chapter.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Betty Bell, her sister, Dr. Susan Nyland, and her son, Richard Haas. She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer Haas Foy (Matthew) and Mary Haas L’Ecuyer, and her grandchildren Hannah, Annabelle, Josephine and Lucas.
