James Edward Oliff, 95, of Tampa, Florida passed away peacefully Friday, the 16th of October 2026. James was born in Americus, Georgia and raised in New York City by his mother and aunt, the late Eva and Hattie Green. James proudly served in the United States Army, where he earned a Bronze Star for his valor in combat during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Army, James had a successful career at the New York State Department of Labor, retiring after twenty plus years of always helping people. In his free time, James enjoyed reminiscing his time in the Army, meeting friends for coffee and spreading cheer with his saying, “Your kindness will never be forgotten”, a code he lived by.
James is survived by his beautiful wife, Judy, children, Josh and Hanna, and his cousin June (Atlanta). James was pre-deceased by his brother, Vonnell Oliff (New York) and his beloved uncle, Charlie Green (Philadelphia) and daughter, Jo-Ann (New York). James had a fantastic personality and made friends wherever he went. James will be remembered fondly as a devoted family man, brave soldier and loyal advocate for fellow veterans. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA).
Private services will be held at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, following burial at Curlew Hills Memorial Gardens
