James (Jim) Lee Teeples, 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on September 9th, 2025. Born to Omer and Geneva Teeples on December 26, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, Jim lived a life marked by hard work, love, and a commanding presence that filled every room he entered.
Jim married his childhood sweetheart, Edith Nave, with whom he shared a beautiful life until her passing in April, 2015. Jim and Edith met at Luther League in Lansing, MI and were married for nearly 60 years before Edith’s passing. Together, they built a family rooted in love. He is survived by his children, Christopher (Sheri) Teeples and Melinda (James) Bogensberger. He was a proud grandfather to Stephanie (Kurtis) Wetzel, Katie (Ryan) Cunill, Courtney (Luke) Zeamer, Alex Teeples, Zachary (Matthew) Teeples, and Eric (Nicole) Salvatore. His legacy continues through his nine great-grandchildren: Hannah, Theodore, Evangeline, Gloria, Jameson and Kasden Wetzel; Oliver and Liam Zeamer; and Maisie Cunill. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Roehling, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
Jim built a successful career in fashion purchasing and merchandising, working as General Merchandise Manager for companies such as Richman Gordman and Target. His career took him across the globe, with travels to China, Italy, New York, and countless other destinations. He cherished these experiences and loved sharing the stories that came from them. At one point, he even owned his own clothing store.
Beyond work, Jim had many passions. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, proudly adopted the Tampa Bay Lightning as a favorite team, and enjoyed both football and golf. He loved fishing and especially treasured the decades he spent living in Cape Coral, Florida. His deep voice, tall stature, and vibrant personality made him unforgettable to everyone who knew him.
A man of faith, Jim was a member of Living Savior Lutheran Church in Valrico, FL. Above all, he was devoted to his beloved Edith, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy throughout his life.
Jim will be remembered for his strength, warmth, humor, and the love he poured into his family. His presence will be deeply missed but forever.
A service will be held at Living Savior Lutheran Church on Sunday, September 14th at 11:30am.
