

Jane Louise Shankweiler Carter, age 101, widow of Sylvanus J. “Skip” Carter, peacefully passed away on June 3, 2016 in her home at Lake Seminole Square, Seminole FL. Mrs. Carter loved to sew, embroider, crewel, and quilt. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and a Gray Lady (nurse’s assistant) at her daughters’ high school and was involved with her church and many other volunteer projects. She was a kind and sweet lady, and was known by her friends and family for her cheerful and optimistic outlook on life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Born in Reading, PA, she was the older daughter of the late Warren A. and Lillie Adam Shankweiler. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School. Skip and Jane married in 1939, and moved to Tampa in 1945 where they raised a family. Her only son, Robert W. Carter, preceded her in death. Surviving are her younger sister Bette E. Tate, Tampa; her three daughters: Wanda Bardin Taylor and husband Terry, Dunwoody, GA; Linda J. Carter Williams and husband Kevin, Orlando; and Patricia J. Carter and husband Robert W. Shouse, Jr., St. Petersburg; niece Diana L. Tate and nephew David L. Tate; grandchildren: Christopher P. Bardin and wife Hollie, Andrew C. Bardin and wife Allison, and Angela M. Carter; and great grandchildren, Kenzie and Charlie Bardin, and Austin Mitchell. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30pm, June 8 at Lake Seminole Square, Auditorium, 8333 Seminole Blvd, Seminole, FL 33772. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Suncoast Hospice/Empath Health at 5771 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33760.
