

Born in Springfield, Illinois, Janet was the daughter of Alfred A. Berry and Fannie W. Berry (Carter). She grew up in Springfield and graduated from Lanphier High School, where she formed lifelong memories and friendships.
Janet lived a life filled with simple joys and deep appreciation for the things she loved most. She was an avid gardener who found great peace in tending to her flowers and plants. A devoted animal lover, Janet had six beloved cats over the course of her life and always had a special place in her heart for feline companions. She also had a deep love for music and enjoyed many genres, especially classical.
In her later years, Janet’s greatest happiness came from the time she spent with her daughter Lori. For the past 18 years, they shared a home together, along with their cherished cats, creating a life filled with companionship, laughter, and quiet moments together.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Whitmore; father, Alfred A. Berry; her mother, Fannie W. Berry (Carter); and her beloved Aunt “Sis.”
She is lovingly remembered by her four daughters: Vicki L. Langston (Larry) of Odessa, Florida; Lisa M. Coates of Durham, North Carolina; Lori J. Parker of Tampa, Florida; and Julie A. Tucker (Rick) of Apalachin, New York; grandchildren, Adam Langston, Erin Gilbert and Spencer Thoman; and 2 great grandchildren, Colton Gilbert and Cooper Gilbert.
She will also be remembered by extended family and friends whose lives she touched with her warmth and kindness.
Janet’s love of family, animals, music, and nature will remain a lasting part of her legacy. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Melech Hospice House located at 11125 N 52nd St, Temple Terrace, FL 33617.
