Joan Ahren, danced through the gates of heaven, singing with a choir of angels, on August 18, 2018, at the age of 88 years.
Joan was born to Leslie and Gertrude McGrady in Rochester, NY on April 14, 1930. She was married to John Teuschel in 1948. After John’s untimely death, Joan married Bill Ahren in 1966 and moved to Jacksonville, Florida.
Joan had a passion for the arts. In her younger years, she was a ballerina and taught children to dance. She performed in musical theater and sang competitively with Sweet Adelines. In her devotion and service to the Lord, she led the choir at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jacksonville for 20 years. People were touched by her ministry and especially enjoyed her signature wiggle while conducting.
She is survived by her children Danny, Kathi, Beth and Billy; grandchildren Patrick, Chris, Kim, Matthew, Andrew, Madi, Lexie, Kayla and Micah; great grandchildren Madyson, Alahna and Isabella; sister-in-law Margaret. She is preceded in death by her sister Muriel, husband John and husband Bill.
Joan’s life will be celebrated with a mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church - 11757 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, FL on September 8, 2018 at 11:00am. Reception to follow.
