They did everything together while enjoying life with Tara, their daughter, age 29 who is married to Andres Caesar.

John was an extremely caring, loving, dedicated and involved parent to Tara. John was Tara’s knight in shining armor!! John always explained to Tara that education was her first priority. He enjoyed attending her soccer games and other sports, always coaching her on.

He had a vast love of the ocean, enjoyed gardening, fishing, hockey and all sports, photography, cooking exotic dishes, and baking delicious breads or cakes. John loved people and life itself! The one most important thing to know about John is that he Loved caring for all people. John’s heart was always opened to all and he listened well to others. My husband and I had the privilege of meeting John a couple of years ago when he and Lisa came to Miami for my 60th birthday celebration. Lisa is my childhood friend who I love like a sister and I knew the man she married had to be quite special. Indeed, he was, as in just the couple of days we were together it was clear why this man was so revered and loved by his family.
I will always remember his sweetness, gentle nature, sincerity, and big heart. The love he showed his wife, my precious friend, was heartwarming beyond words. I am thankful for and will treasure the laughter, conversation, friendship, love and all the wonderful moments we shared that weekend.
I am reminded of this saying, "life is not measured by the breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. John touched so many lives in such a profound way and lived a full life surrounded by his wife and daughter who were and always will be his world. His life was full of moments that took his breath away.
Jack and I, along with my sisters, are keeping you, Lisa and Tara in our hearts and prayers. We love you!! With big hugs,
Hydie and Jack and Tammy and Candi

Praying for the family during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of working with John at the Tampa VA hospital and he was not only an employee but also a friend. John was dedicated to serving the veterans of the Tampa VA and he always provided quality care to them as well as his fellow colleagues. He was a gentle giant very humble, full of wisdom and caring. He will be missed but God has gained another angel. Continual praying for comfort for his family God bless you all 🙏

Our deepest condolences to Lisa, Tara and the whole Carlsen family. We met when Tara & Hope were in kindergarten and have known many years of this family's love for one another, for others and for enjoying and sharing the great gifts of Love and life. John was truly a warm and kind man, who radiated a loving and generous spirit to all, and he will be deeply missed. Our sympathy and love to Tara and Lisa as we know we'll see John's love for them and how much he's cherished, in their every smile.  Our love, Hope Thiele and Barbara Zehnder

My deepest condolences goes out to the family. I have worked at the VA in radiology for the past 12 years and every morning I would walk in at the same time as John and he would always say " good morning" and ask how I was and say today is going to be a good day! He was very nice and kind and I can still picture his laid back walk into the hospital as I went to x-ray and he went to IR. He always would come talk to us and just be a very cheerful and good hearted person. Very genuine!
