John Walter Fillmon, lovingly known as JW and Dad, passed away on September 26, 2026, at the age of 93. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who dedicated much of his life to serving his country and caring for his family.
JW proudly served in the United States Air Force for 24 years, including service during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his military career, he had the opportunity to bring his family along on assignments and adventures that took them to Libya, Germany, and throughout Europe and North Africa. These experiences gave his family a unique, firsthand education in different cultures, traditions, and ways of life—memories and perspectives that would last a lifetime.
Following his distinguished military service, JW continued his career of public service by joining the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in Tampa, Florida, where he faithfully served for 23 years.
JW is survived by his two sons, Michael Fillmon and Echols Fillmon, who will carry forward his memory and legacy.
He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Lindsey M Kloter, Justin M Fillmon, Logan M Fillmon, John Fillmon, and Bridget Fillmon, and nine great-grandchildren: Thalia Munoz, Alena Alackera, Zane Kloter, Emmie Fillmon, James Fillmon, Chelsea Fillmon, Brooklyn Fillmon, Brodey Fillmon, and Myles Fillmon.
JW will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, where he will be reunited with his beloved wife, Mae, the mother of his children.
His life was marked by service, dedication, and a love for his family. From his years in the Air Force to his decades delivering mail in Tampa, JW leaves behind a legacy of commitment to his country and the people he loved most.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by his family.
A celebration of JW’s life will be announced later.
