Johnny Robert Adcock
January 27, 1945 – July 6, 2025
With great love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Johnny Robert Adcock on July 6, 2025, surrounded by his cherished family.
Born on January 27, 1945, in Gadsden, Alabama, Johnny was the beloved son of “Big” John and Dorothy Adcock. At a young age, Johnny and his brother Mike grew up in Auburn, Alabama, watching their father, Big John Adcock, play for the Auburn Tigers. That experience ignited a lifelong love of Auburn football that would shape their lives for generations. The Adcock family made their home in Tampa, Florida when Johnny was in the first grade—a city that would become his lifelong home and community.
Johnny distinguished himself early, as a proud member of the Chamberlain Chiefs’ 1961 state championship football team. Following in his father’s footsteps, Johnny earned a scholarship to play defensive end for the Auburn Tigers—fulfilling a family tradition. While at Auburn, Johnny met the love of his life, Susan Withers, and from that day forward, they shared an inseparable bond and 59 years of loving marriage. Auburn, and the Auburn Tigers, remained at the heart of their lives together.
In a rare and proud family distinction, Big John Adcock, Johnny Adcock, and Johnny’s son Brian Adcock became only the third three-generation football family in Auburn University history—a legacy that will forever stand as a testament to their love of the game, the school, and each other.
Johnny and Susan returned to Tampa, where Johnny built not only a family but also a legacy of business and community leadership. In 1967, Johnny founded Adcock Financial Group, where he served clients for over 55 years with integrity, vision, and a commitment to excellence. He was a Top of the Table qualifier every year of his distinguished career and a life member of this prestigious industry honor. Johnny also served as Chair of the International Forum and was instrumental in helping to establish NFP as part of the Partners Financial Advisory Board. He generously mentored others in the industry, always giving back in gratitude for those who helped him succeed.
Beyond business, Johnny’s influence on Tampa is immeasurable. He served as Chair of the Tampa Sports Authority during two separate terms, helping to bring the 1984 and 1991 Super Bowls to Tampa and working alongside Phil Esposito and Tom McEwen to bring NHL hockey and the Tampa Bay Lightning to the city. His passion for sports also led him to serve on the Hall of Fame Board and Selection Committee, working with his father to bring what is today known as the ReliaQuest Bowl to Tampa.
Johnny’s heart for the community extended deeply into healthcare, where he served for many years as Chairman of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees. He was a tireless advocate for St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, where he championed children’s healthcare and helped establish a nursing scholarship fund that continues to impact lives.
Above all, Johnny was a man of faith, family, and fierce devotion. He loved the outdoors, competition—especially on the golf course—and was known for his quick wit, warm laughter, and never forgetting a good joke. But most of all, he was known for his unwavering commitment to his family.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Susan Adcock; his three sons and their wives, David and Tippi Adcock, Brian and Amanda Adcock, and Stephen and Stephanie Adcock; his brother beloved brother Mike Adcock and sister Patti; and his treasured grandchildren: Gregory Adcock, Jessica Adcock, Matthew Adcock, Tyler Adcock, Jonathan Adcock, Anna Adcock, Brandon Adcock, and Hailey Adcock
Johnny Robert Adcock leaves behind a remarkable legacy of family, community service, business leadership, and generosity—a life well-lived and deeply loved. His impact will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Ceremony to honor Johnny on July 24, 2025 at Avila Golf and Country Club beginning at 5:30.
Friends, Family and all whose lives were touched by Johnny are warmly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital.
