

Jose “Tito” Forgas, 77, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, Tito moved to New York as a young boy, where he was raised with strong values of resilience, hard work, and devotion to family. He later made Florida his home, raising his children there and building a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering loyalty.
Tito proudly served his country as a Sergeant and fire fighter in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, a role that shaped his discipline, strength, and deep sense of responsibility. After his service, he continued a life of dedication and reliability through long careers with UPS and DHL, where he was known for his work ethic, kindness, and dependable presence. Together with his wife, Wanda “Tiny”, he helped found the Starrett City Volunteer Ambulance in Brooklyn, New York, serving as Vice President, and continued his service as a volunteer firefighter in Hempstead, New York. Tito was also known for his passion for that feel good, get up and dance music, as the president of Brooklyn DJs LTD, which wasn’t just a hobby of his, it was the soundtrack of his spirit.
He is preceded in death by his father, Carlos Forgas, his sister Iris Cruz, and his brother Tony Forgas.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda, and his children: Joey (Julie), Melissa (Bill), Robert (Susan), Jason (Shirley), John (Ashley), Matthew, Steven, Shelley (Matt), Kimberly (Josh), and Stephanie (Joel). Tito was a cherished grandfather to Jason Alexander, TJ, Taylor, Joseph, Justin, Shea, Rachel, Bella, Katie, Alyssa, Brayden, Ryan, Emerson, Anias, Caeden, Kyle, Oriah, Jude, Madison, Andrew, Kennedy, Olivia, Sophia, and Eliana, and a proud great-grandfather to Harvin. He also leaves behind his mother, Maria Forgas, sisters Ana and Aida Forgas, and his brother Carlos “JR” Forgas. Tito’s family was his greatest joy, and he carried each of them in his heart.
Tito will be remembered for his humor, his strength, his generous spirit, and his love of music, especially the golden oldies and 70s disco. His legacy lives on in the countless memories he created and the love he gave to so many.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home of Carrollwood on Sunday, November 30th at 4pm. Visitation will be held from 2pm-4pm.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Tito’s service, the family welcomes donations to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, an organization that assists Veterans, their families, caregivers, and those living with SCI/D.
