Obituary of Joseph Paul Keys
Joseph Paul Keys (1928-2022) Joseph Paul Keys, Joe, died on January 18, 2022 in Sun City, Florida. He was 93. He died from advanced age and dementia. Joe was born in Schuykill, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1928. He joined the Army when he was 18 and met the love of his life and married Lily Mae Scarborough Peters at the age of 20. They had 56 glorious years together and traveled the world with his military service. They lived in England, Germany, and Joe’s favorite location, Hawaii, before retiring to Tampa, Florida in 1966. Joe served his country proudly for 20 years. After retirement from the Army, Joe put his mechanical know-how to work servicing air conditioning units. He had his own company, Keys Heating & Air, until he retired in 2000. Joe and Lily were faithful members of Temple Terrace Church of Christ for their entire time together in Tampa. One of their brothers and sisters-in-law had been founding members of the congregation. Joe was a model husband and father, assuming the parenting of Lily’s three children she was raising on her own. He raised one of his grandsons from his childhood, claiming him as his own - Sean Peters. PaJoe (as he was known by his many grandchildren) was a universal favorite, accompanying them with glee to Busch Gardens Theme Park and to Disney World. He loved to drive and was happy to do so for hours to spend holidays with his family in other states. Joe is survived by his stepdaughters, Sara Peters Morbach of Miami, FL and Judy Peters of North Carolina, grandsons Sean Peters (Rita) of Tampa, FL), Robert Morbach (Emma) of Miami, FL, and Kevin Morbach (Peggy) of Orange Park, FL, granddaughters Sara Peters of Arizona, Ivy Peden of Naples, FL, Kathleen Potash of Tallahassee, FL, Marilee Moser of Miami, FL, and Laura Scott (Ben) of Nashville, TN), and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services entrusted to Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories 4207 E. Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610.
