June Elizabeth McClernan

June Griffis McClernan 82 of Thonotosassa Florida passed away in Tampa Florida on December 16, 2023. June was born in Sebring Florida on December 27, 1940 to Doris and Carl Griffis. She attended Hillsborough High School in Tampa, Florida. She later attended Gordon Keller School of Nursing in Tampa, Florida.

June worked as a Registered Nurse at Tampa General Hospital for over 35 years as a hemodialysis nurse. After retiring from Tampa General Hospital she worked at the University of South Florida’s chronic dialysis unit for approximately five years. After retiring from nursing, she went on to volunteer at Shriners Hospitals for Children Tampa at the front desk for approximately 10 years. She enjoyed going out to eat and trying out new restaurants, attending concerts, going to movies and Facebook. Her most favorite thing to do was to spend quality time with family and friends and her cats and dogs. June was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was also a proud member of the Red Hatters Club, Temple Terrace Friendship Club, Shrine Sistas, and the American Association of Nephrology Nurses.

June is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Chewning; sisters, Carlene Beitler, RubyJo Brew (Bill Brew), Mary Whall (Milt Whall). Preceding her in death are her parents, Carl and Doris Griffis; sister, Carolyn Heaps.

A funeral service for June will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida. Interment to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
