Leslie James Schleman

Leslie James Schleman has passed away peacefully at his home in Lutz, Florida at the age of 90 on August 27th. A lifelong resident of the Tampa area, Leslie was born in Tampa, attended Hillsborough High School, and built a beautiful life raising his family in Lutz with Shirley, the love of his life.

For nearly 70 years, Leslie owned and operated Schleman Plumbing. In the early years, he worked alongside his brothers; later, Shirley joined him at the helm, followed by his daughters Kathy and Esther. In the final years of the business, his grandson Casey became his business partner, joined by Casey’s wife Nicole. Together, they carried forward the legacy Leslie had built through dedication, integrity, and family unity.

Leslie treated all his employees with deep respect, welcoming them as extended family. He and Shirley hosted annual Christmas parties where employees and their families were celebrated and included. Anyone who came to Leslie with a problem knew he would do everything he could to help.

Leslie and Shirley raised their daughters at Brandywine, the family horse ranch, where they created a fairytale life for their children and grandchildren. Leslie was an incredible father—if his girls needed anything, all they ever had to do was ask.

Leslie is survived by his five daughters: Cynthia Jones, Sharon Wild, Kathy Lloyd, Esther Schleman, and Leslie Barton; nine grandchildren: Angela, Johnny, Katie, James, Gary, Casey, Ronnie, Leslie, and Morgan; fourteen great grandchildren; three sisters: Claudette, Annette, and Sandra; and his brother Roy.

He had a generous philanthropic spirit, donating to the little league where his grandchildren played ball, supporting school fundraisers, and contributing to the many charities Shirley selected—continuing her giving legacy even after her passing.

Leslie found his greatest joy outdoors, especially fishing on the boat and hunting with his brothers. These moments brought him peace, connection, and lifelong happiness.

Leslie’s legacy is one of devotion—to his family, his work, his community, and the countless people whose lives he touched. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he gave and the life he built will continue to live on through all who knew him.
