Luis Garcia of Tampa passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021 at the age of 84 surrounded by his wife, Mary, and their children. Luis was born in Havana, Cuba on October 3, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Esperanza Garcia; brother, Eddie Garcia; and his beloved Abuela Mica who raised him jointly with his parents.
Luis worked at Harris Paint, Co for many years and continued his education from Cuba by attending University of Tampa graduating in 1964. He later obtained his CPA and earned his MBA from USF in 1971. Luis started a very successful private practice of Public Accounting with Louis P. Ortiz. The firm has successfully continued to operate under the name of Garcia & Ortiz.
Forty-one years ago, Luis married Mary with a very long and happy relationship. Mary was the love of his life.
Luis had three daughters, Gladys and husband, Steve, Lisa and husband, Buster, and Rosie and husband, Clayton. He inherited three children from Mary – Andy and wife, Kelley, Andrea and husband, Jack, and Brandy and husband, Frankie. They all became the Brady Bunch with 13 grandchildren, Michael and wife, Annemarie, Nicholas, Nathan, Anna, Kurt, Alex, Vincent, Nicolette, Cristina, Mia, Kylie, Carter, Francesca; one great-grandchild, Michael Jr.; sister, Ida.
Luis had many personal relationships, too many to be listed, but he wanted to make a special reference to his brother, Eddie Garcia; his business partner, Louis P. Ortiz; his inherited brother, Carlos Fuente Sr; and his inspiration, Monsignor Laurence Higgins. The most important relationship came with his marriage to Mary.
Luis belonged to multiple not-for-profit organizations. In lieu of flowers, Luis’ preference was to increase the endowment fund created by the Fuente Foundation with the Boys and Girls Clubs, please visit https://bgctampa.org/l-garcia-tribute/ to make a donation, but feel free to contribute to a charity of your choice.
