

Luther U. McCoy of Lutz, Florida passed away on Sunday May 7, 2023. He was born on August 8, 1930 in Stringtown, Pike County, Kentucky into the real McCoy family. He was an extremely hard worker who loved his family and was dedicated to providing for them. He worked as a coal miner for 30 years in the coal mines of Kentucky and West Virginia along the Tug River Valley. After the Tug River flood of 1977 Luther and his Wife Virginia relocated with their family to Tampa Florida. He loved to play his guitar, mandolin, banjo and sing, spending time with his family and watching the Tampa Bay Rays. Luther loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and served for many years in the local Church in the choir, jail ministry, children’s ministry and seniors ministry.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents James and Virgie McCoy, Sons Donald Jeff McCoy and David McCoy and Son-in-Law Henry Severance. Luther is survived by his beloved Wife Virginia McCoy, Sons Luther McCoy, Jr. (Linda), Terry McCoy and Gary McCoy, Daughters Janet Davis (Lowell Topsy), Angela Severance and Jennifer Troughton (Jason), Grandchildren Joshua Troughton and Jonathan Troughton, Ryan McCoy, Dara Young (Rusty), Christina Davis, Kimberly Davis, and Mandie Hartford as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this time. A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 18, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, 25062 US Hwy 119, Belfry, Kentucky 41514. Interment to follow at McCoy Cemetery in Burnwell, Kentucky.
