Magdalena “Maggie” Pons Ferraro, 63, entered eternal rest on October 2, 2021. Born in Bayamo, Cuba, she fled to the United States as a young child along with her mother and brother, awaiting to reunite with her father in New Jersey. They would later move and make Tampa their forever home. Maggie’s greatest loves were for her family and living life to its fullest. She valiantly lived with chronic kidney disease and considered dialysis her “job”. She always said, “The disease may affect the way I have to live, but I will NOT let it affect how I will live my life. I have choices.” She continuously remained positive and the glue of the family.
Maggie enjoyed life and the great outdoors. She loved vacationing, visiting National, State, and local parks, though her favorite place to be was watching the sunrise and sunset on the beach. Maggie and her husband would regularly find new local eateries - particularly anywhere that had crab legs! Her favorite flowers were roses, gardenias, sunflowers and gladiolas.
Maggie, also adoringly known as Nani, loved taking care of her grandchildren. Appreciating the thrill of finding a great bargain, she would frequent stores such as Bealls and Burlington – constantly on the lookout for something for them. There could never be enough “I love you’s” or hugs and kisses. They love their Nani high up in the sky! Nani was looking forward to watching them grow and celebrate milestones for years to come.
Always thinking of others, Maggie worked as a Lunchroom Manager with the School District of Hillsborough County for over 13 years. She had a heart for the children she considered “her kids,” making sure they would not feel the pains of hunger.
Maggie was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, “Nani”, sister, and friend. She is preceded in death by her father, Pedro Pons. Maggie is survived by Ken, her beloved husband of 37 years, mother Nidia Pons, children; Alyssa Ferraro (Jenry Oliva), Jared Ferraro (Brianna), Sarah Ferraro, grandchildren; Adelina, Alianna, Caleb, brother Robert Pons (Bonnie), extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Maggie’s memory to the Kidney Foundation or Angelman Syndrome Organization.
