Margaret Pauline Posner, born Margaret Pauline Alonso in the Palmetto Beach section of Tampa on August 1, 1931, passed away this past Friday, March 1, 2024 at the age of 92 years after a short illness in Land O Lakes, Florida.
Margaret, know by the nickname Sue, was a feisty and very loving person who cherished her family, her thirty plus years of work as a waitress in some very fine restaurants, and her friends with whom she grew up and those who she met along her way. She was tough, independent, and spirited. She was most proud of having received glowing letters of recommendation from her employers at the various restaurants at which she had been employed.
Sue married three times. Her first marriage was to Dan Brown with whom she had her first child, Thomas (aka Tommy), her second marriage was to Paul Sacher with whom she had two children, Robert and Donna, and her third marriage was to Seymour Posner.
Sue left Tampa in the early 1950s and moved to Brooklyn, New York where she lived until moving to Los Angeles, California in the mid 1980s. From Los Angeles, she moved to Henderson, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas, in the early 1990s. Upon retirement, Sue returned home to Florida where she lived near her oldest son, Tommy, and his family, who took great care in having Sue always be part of family gatherings.
Sue always loved being near family and friends and it was in this spirit that she was honored and celebrated upon reaching her 92nd birthday this past August. A lunch was held in her honor at which friends came from as far away as Naples, Florida to attend Sue’s birthday. It gave her great pleasure and very much happiness.
Sue’s son Robert, having been in the field of music promotion, arranged to have his mom honored by a personal friend and member of the internationally known group, Blue October, when they recently performed at the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa. Steve Schiltz kindly took Sue backstage before the concert and personally performed a well-known song, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, which was one of Sue’s all-time favorite songs. She beamed with pride and excitement like a teenager. It was one of the best days she had ever experienced and she spoke about it often over the last months of her life.
Sue is survived by her husband, Seymour; children, Tommy, Robert, and Donna; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.
Her favorite expression she often repeated in the last few years of her life was, “Everybody is different.”
Sue had quite a full life. She believed deeply in God and angels and in the power of love to heal wounds received in her life.
A funeral service for Margaret will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida. Interment to follow in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 4228 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
