Maria Montero, 89, was called by the Lord on September 2, 2016. She passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with cancer and its complications. She is survived by her children Melody Montero (José Ortiz), Gladys (Edward) Gutierrez, José (Lisa) Montero, and Mary (Peter) Collins; grandchildren Daniel, Victoria, Isabel (Robert), Ana, Cristina, Olivia, Katie, Andrew, Matthew, Gabriela, Elise, and Jake; and great-granddaughter Liliana. A native of Spain, she came to the United States with her late husband Andrés in the late 1950s. She was a devout Catholic who was eager to instill her faith in her children and grandchildren. She loved her family and endeavored to always do the best for them. A funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 5, 2016 at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church in Safety Harbor. Family members will receive friends at 10 a.m. at the church prior to the Mass. Burial will be the following day, Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Tampa.
