Mary was born Hartselle, AL to Dolly W. and Spencer A. Burleson on October 25, 1943. She went to school at Monroe Co. High School, Monroeville, AL. Mary married Ken Carithers on October 23, 1965 at First Baptist Church in Hartselle, AL. She started working in November of 1963 as a flight attendant for National Airlines. Mary also sold jewelry in the Tampa Bay Area for many, many years. Mary was also very active in the Junior League of Tampa Bay PTA, and as a homeroom mom many times over. She also made the best sweet tea ever!
Mary is preceded in death by her mother, Dolly; father, Spencer; and two siblings, Nancy Andrew of St. Simon’s Island, GA and Jon O. Burleson III of Scottsboro, AL.
Mary is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ken; son, Ben; daughter, Jennifer (Dennis Braswell); brother, Emory Burleson of Madison, AL; and grandchildren, Kendall and Parker Braswell.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday January 7, 2021 at Idlewild Baptist Church. Pastor Ken Whitten will be officiating. Burial will follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
