Mary Alice Geary

January 20, 1947July 27, 2020

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Mary Alice Geary, our loving and devoted mother and friend in the early morning hours of July 27, 2020. She left us too soon when her spirit slipped away as her body succumbed to congestive heart failure, a result of her battle with diabetes and COPD. She was 73.

A true Florida native and King High School graduate of the class of 1966, Mary Alice witnessed incredible changes in her Seminole Heights neighborhood over the last 50 years and was considered by many to be an icon of the tight knit community. She spent her childhood traipsing carefree up and down the streets of Sulfur Springs. One of her favorite things to do was visit her daddy at the fire station where one day she met the love of her life, Donald. They married September 9th, 1966 and began their life together in their house on Tampa St. shortly after the birth of their son, Sean.

Mary Alice was the beloved mother of Sean (Sara), Duane (Kara), and Daryl (Tammi) and proud Mamaw to Duane Tyler (Kristen), Devin, Micheal, Nick, Daniel (Keisha), Dustin (Krissy), and recently Luke and Mark. Mary loved being a great-grandma to Logan, Dylan, Ariel, Caden, Kylee, Kinleigh, and a baby girl due August 2nd.

Predeceased by her devoted husband Donald, and brother Steven, Mary Alice lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker and guardian to the neighborhood kids while serving as a crossing guard. She loved to cook, fish at the lake, was highly skilled with a sewing machine and crochet hook, and enjoyed trips to the beach. She created lifelong friendships through game chats online and Facebook.

Animals and babies made Mary Alice smile like nothing else and she spent hours snuggled up with them in her arms. She spent a great deal of time volunteering at the BMX track with her family, serving in the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and pursuing her passion growing prize winning show roses for the National Rose Society. Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her sons strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

A visitation for Mary Alice is scheduled Sunday, August 2nd at 2:00 P.M. at Blount and Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL with funeral service to follow at 3:00 P.M. Flowers are welcome and can be sent to Blount and Curry. Family and friends are invited to the Geary residence at 5912 N. Tampa St., Tampa following the graveside service for a pot-luck dinner, to share fond memories and to comfort our hearts.

I never met Mary Alice but we "talked" via facebook. We found out several years ago that we were 3td cousins. I will miss seeing her posts and responding to them. Our last post was in January when I mentioned to her that I had just visited the Geiger Cemetery in Z-Hills. She indicated she was disappointed that she didn't know because she would have met me there. Needless to say I am very disappointed we never met and my heart goes out to her family.

To the Geary boys and Family, so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. Mary Alice was such a wonderful lady, so caring and fun to be around. So blessed to have such wonderful memories of our families from back in the day when we were growing up and hanging out. I also remember going by your house on Tampa Street and stopping to talk to your mom and dad when they were outside caring for the roses they grew and getting advice from them on how to keep mine alive. (LOL). Please find comfort in knowing that your mom and dad are back together again.
With my deepest Sympathy,
Jackie Findley (Cracker Jack and Honey Dews Daughter)
