Major Michael Flynn, 58, of Seminole, Florida, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021, in Fort Pierce, Florida. He was born to parents William Flynn and Sue Arnold in St. Petersburg, Florida on April 14, 1962. Michael graduated from Dixie M. Hollins High School and received a degree in Business Administration from Saint Leo University. Before he began his career in Law Enforcement, he served 4 years in the Marine Corps Reserves as an Amphibious Assault Gunner. Michael began his career with the Tampa Police Department in 1994 and diligently served the community until his retirement on January 24, 2020, when he retired as a Captain over the Professional Standards Bureau. Michael went on to continue his life of public service as a Major with the Fort Pierce Police Department, which he joined on July 22, 2020.
Although Michael celebrated many professional accomplishments, his greatest joy was finding and marrying the love of his life, Yvette Flynn, in 2004. Michael is survived by his wife, Yvette Flynn, parents William Flynn and Sue Arnold. Nothing was more important to him than the devotion he had to his children A.J. Vega, Aliza Vega, Scott Flynn (Josclyn), Laura Kurz (Jason) Amanda Little (David). Michael was also the proud grandfather of Kaleb Flynn, Aubrey Kurz, Kieran Flynn, Sadie Kurz, and Korbin Flynn. Michael cherished the bond he shared with his sister, Robin Ferguson, brother, Bobby Flynn (Nellie), mother in-law Milagros Castro, brother in-law Ruben Castro (Angelique), and his beloved nieces and nephews Ashley Byrd (Richie) Jonathan Ferguson (Alexis), Carly Ferguson, Sarah Flynn, Moriah Flynn, Noah Flynn as well as a host of other family members and close friends.
Michael was a devout Christian and relied heavily on his faith throughout his life. He kept Christ at the center of his marriage and was humbled by his many personal and professional successes. Michael’s faith was demonstrated by the many lives he touched during his 25 years of law enforcement. Michael was also very involved and supported several organizations and churches that contributed to the needs of the community such as the Pinellas County Rotary Club, The Springs, The Tampa Police Memorial Committee and Children With A Vision, Inc.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home, located at 3207 W Bearss Avenue, Tampa, FL 33618. The memorial service will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 10:00 am, at Bay Hope Church located at 17030 Lakeshore Rd, Lutz, FL 33558. Burial services to follow at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. To honor Michael’s memory, in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a donation be made to the Tampa Police Memorial Committee.
