Michael A. Fortunato passed away peacefully at his home in Lutz on May 28th. He was surrounded by his family. Michael was 58 years old. Michael had been a multi-line insurance agent for Allstate Insurance for 31 years prior to his retirement earlier this year. His offices had been first on Skipper Road and later on Bearss Avenue. Michael left a wife, Lee Ann (Maggiacomo), and his son, William, both of Lutz, Florida. Michael was born in New York, New York and graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, New Jersey in 1975 and from the University of South Florida in 1979 with a BA degree. He was the son of Samuel F. Fortunato and Mary Ann (O’Farrell) Fortunato of Little Silver, New Jersey, both of whom pre-deceased him. Michael had been recognized by Allstate as a member of the President’s Club in recognition of his outstanding service to his hundreds of customers. He worked for many years as a partner with Dave Maggiacomo, who was to become his father-in law. He had also been the long-time President of the Lake Keene Homeowners Association in Lutz. Michael was beloved by his insurance clients and their families and never hesitated to delay his own plans or disrupt his schedule if a client needed advice or help at anytime of the day. His love of his job was mainly derived from the satisfaction he gained in helping them, often with issues far exceeding insurance matters. Michael was an accomplished tennis player and boating enthusiast. And, as anyone who knew him can attest, was also fascinated with airplanes and maintained and operated a web-site based in Lutz for fellow airplane enthusiasts. Michael is also survived by his brothers Frank and his wife Deanne of Lambertville, New Jersey; his brother Richard and his wife Heba and their three sons of Scotch Plains, New Jersey; his sister Mary Ann and her husband Victor Bayers and their daughter of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey; and his in-laws Dave and Juanita Maggiacomo of Tampa. Visitation is at 9 am, Monday, June 1 at the Blount & Curry Funeral Chapel at 3207 W. Bearss Avenue, Tampa, with the funeral services at 10 am. Interment will follow thereafter at Lutz Cemetery.
