Michael was born in London, England in 1944 to Gerard and Barbara Songy. He was raised in Louisiana
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, his Auburn sweetheart, Barbara. He is also survived by his son, Christopher and his daughters Sophia and Aubrey; his son Patrick (Monica) and their son Jack. Survivors also include brother Dr. Bob Songy (Sandie) and their 3 children; his sister Jeanine (David) and their 2 children.
Michael graduated from Jesuit High School (New Orleans), undergraduate degree from Loyola University, N.O. LA, graduate degrees from Auburn University and Georgia State University.
Michael joined the United States Marine Corps where he attained the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged in 1972. Over the course of his career he worked as a Director of Information Technology for Southern Company, TVA, and Florida Power Corporation. His work included the oversight of the Information Technology Center at Farley Nuclear Power Plant.
Michael was an utterly devoted husband and father. He always supported Barbara in everything she undertook. He took an active role in his two sons formation and education. He was always there for them as they attended the Mc Callie School in Chattanooga, TN and Jesuit High School in Tampa, FL. Michael, a devout Catholic, remained active with Jesuit years after his sons graduated. The Michael G. Songy award was given to Michael by the Dad’s Club at Jesuit High School. This award is given annually.
Michael survived a major stroke in 2007. He made amazing strides with the help of family, friends, therapists and caregivers. We will always remember his upbeat attitude.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Blount & Curry Funeral Home- Carrollwood Chapel, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Jesuit High School at 10 a.m. Burial will be on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 11:30 a.m.
