Mike was born at the beginning of the Great Depression on September 29, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Nicholas and Maria Nunes. He grew up in a large family of nine children. He carried the values he learned growing up: faith, hard work, family, and perseverance throughout his long and meaningful life. He is survived by his brother, Nick Nunes of Aledo, Texas.
He was blessed to share 72 years of marriage with the love of his life, Ruth Beverly “Bez” Nunes, who preceded him in death. Together, Mike and Ruth built a life filled with love, family, adventure, and countless memories. During His 22 years of faithful service in the United States Air Force, they had the opportunity to travel the world and experience many places together. He proudly served his country as a jet engine mechanic and later shared his knowledge and experience by teaching at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. His dedication to his country was an important part of who he was, but his greatest accomplishment and greatest joy was always his family.
Both Mike and Ruth raised six children, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and memories that will live on through the generations. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them.
Starting when he was in his in his 20’s Mike had a lifelong love of bowling and bowled in leagues for more than 50 years. For him, bowling was more than a sport, it was a way to spend time with friends, make memories, and enjoy life. He also appreciated the simple pleasures, especially a good hot dog or a prime rib dinner. A devoted sports fan, He proudly cheered for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays, and his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his three sons, Bruce (Kathy) Nunes of Ocean Shores, Washington; Mark (Tammy) Nunes of Lutz Florida; and Sam (Sandy) Nunes of Spring Hill, Florida. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great- grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his love, his stories, and his legacy.
In addition to his beloved wife, Ruth, Mike was preceded in death by three of his children, Tom Nunes, Theresa Nunes, and Steve Nunes.
Mike’s life was a testament to faith, family, service, perseverance, and love. He lived 96 years, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, friendships, laughter, and memories that will be treasured by those who knew and loved him. He gave his life to the Lord and trusted in Him for his salvation.
Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we can find comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved Ruth and resting in the arms of his Lord and Savior. His journey on earth is complete, but the love he gave and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of his family forever.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
