Nelia Rosa Vazquez Ruiz , 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on November 30, 2019. Born in Havana, Cuba, Nelia had a doctorate degree in education and started her career as an elementary school teacher. She married (Mario) Fredy Ruiz on December 29, 1961. They moved to Tampa, Florida in 1970, where they worked and raised their daughter, Susan. They enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Nelia loved music, dancing, and singing. She played the piano throughout her life.

Nelia worked in accounting and payroll, retiring from GTE Data Services, Inc. in 1995. In retirement, Nelia and Fredy loved travelling overseas and taking cruises together. They also loved spoiling their granddaughters, Stephanie and Samantha Allen. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where her daughter attended elementary school, and later of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir. On the 29th of December, Nelia and Fredy celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary. Nelia is preceded in death by Georgina Eligio de La Puente Leonard and Jose Manuel Vazquez, her parents; Leida Garrido and Georgina Delgado, her sisters; and Stephanie Allen, her granddaughter.

Nelia is survived by her husband, Mario Fredy Ruiz; Daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Scott Allen; granddaughter, Samantha Allen; Sisters, Graciela Nacianceno and Barbara (Charles) Holleman; Brothers, Mario Leonard and Joe Vazquez, and extended family and friends.

The family wishes to thank Nelia’s sister and brother- in-law, Susana Daisy and Miguel Ruiz, and dear family friends, Gabriella Harmon and Lolita Grohmann for their devotion and support in her illness.
