I had the privilege of training Pascual for two years, and in that time, he became like a father to me. He was feisty, full of energy, and had the funniest, most blunt things to say. I will always cherish his humor and spirit. ❤️

Querido Pito,

Hoy nos toca despedir a alguien que no fue solo un amigo, sino un hermano, y los Bidot y Cifuentes, una familia. Desde el primer día que llegué a mi residencia en Estados Unidos, cuando la vida nos era aún desconocida y llena de incertidumbre, tú estuviste ahí. Con tu sonrisa generosa, tu corazón abierto y tu calidez inconfundible, te convertiste en parte de nuestra historia, de nuestra familia.

Fueron más de 50 años de amistad, de familia elegida. Compartimos risas, historias, y sobre todo, cariño profundo. Siempre dijiste que éramos hermanos, y así lo sentimos todos nosotros. 

Apenas hace unos días te vimos, y aunque no lo sabíamos, nos regalaste una despedida silenciosa pero llena de amor. Hoy nos queda tu recuerdo vivo, tu ejemplo, tu nobleza. Nos queda el privilegio de haber compartido la vida contigo.

Nos duele profundamente tu partida, pero también damos gracias por haber caminado juntos tanto tiempo. Te llevamos en el alma, con gratitud y con amor. Nunca te olvidaremos, hermano del alma.

We met in 2006 at Inlingua for Foreign Languages, and since then we have been very good friends sharing culture and laughter.
We would both be looking to our weekly meetings with enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. He would learn French with me and I would learn everything about America and Puerto Rico with him. 
Essentially, and above all we would learn about God and Love Charity  from our daily experiences, having him always pointing out with his legendary smile "En Français s'il vous plait!".

I will always cherish the time, encouragement, and knowledge Dr. Bidot shared with me during a very challenging time in my life as a medical student studying for my boards. I had the privilege of volunteering with him at the Center for Family Health in Tampa, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning from him every aspect of patient care. Dr. Bidot was a truly gifted physician who showed genuine care and unwavering devotion to his patients.

As a student, I learned to incorporate his skills and dedication into my own life and future practice. We remained friends over the years, and he was always available and ready to offer wise, thoughtful advice.

My deepest condolences to the Bidot family. Dr. Bidot’s kindness and legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be profoundly missed.

Most of your friends called you Maestro but because of your outstanding medical knowledge we affectionately called you Profesor.

Bidot was a wonderful human being whom I was blessed to know for many years. We always communicated with respect, sincerity, and affection. I will miss him greatly, especially every Monday morning when we talked.

I served as Pascual’s last chief of medicine at the VA and we were office neighbors at the VA for 3 years before I became Chief of Medicine. We served on the USF internal medicine faculty together as well. Ironically, his kids were at St Lawrence Catholic School at the same time that I attended there from 1981-1985. 
 
During the 1980s, Pascual was extremely successful in publications and worked with Robert Farese, Anthony Morrison, Arunabha Ganguly, and David Vesely in what was an incredibly brilliant  Endocrinology faculty group at USF. This faculty group was the heart and soul of Endocrinolology of Tampa Bay and along with the experts at UF and UM, the state of Florida was considered to have some of the most brilliant minds in Endocrinology in the nation . Pascual first USF paper was titled “Parathyroid Horome and Adenosine 3 (prime)-5 (prime) monophosphate acutely increase the phospholipids of the Phosphatidate-Polyphosphoinositide Pathway in Rabbit Kidney Cortex Tubules In Vitro by a Cycloheximide-Sensitive Process”. For those who knew him professionally  and his complete embracing of making everything as complex as possible to challenge his fellows to improve their thinking process, there is no surprise that his first paper is one of the longest titled out there! 

He had the courage to become a resident again in 1997 and completed Preventive Medicine residency at USF under Dr James Brooks becoming the first Occupational Health physician at the VA. He even published in that field ! 

He trained 70 endocrinology fellows who will now carry on his legacy, sense of humor (Normal is a town in Ohio!)  and brilliance forever across the world . He will never be forgotten at the James Haley VA and at the USF Department of Internal Medicine.

A truly versatile, knowledgeable, and well-rounded individual, you excelled in so many facets of life. I am deeply grateful for the encouragement you gave me in those early days to pursue my dreams. Your mentorship and guidance meant more than words can express, giving me the courage to take chances. You always spoke with honesty—never sugar-coating—and even though we had not seen each other in a few years, the many friends and former patients you referred to me were a lasting reminder of our connection.

It will never be the same without you. I will always remember our morning rounds and Endocrine case presentations, especially your oft-quoted phrase: “Normal is a town in Ohio.” I hope your family finds comfort in the many cherished memories built over the years. You will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

Pascual will be missed. He was a fine gentleman who almost always had a smile on his face. I enjoyed all the discussions we had together. Maybe he rest in peace.  Condolences to his family of this fine man.

Descansa en paz, Pito. Fuiste más que un hermano — fuiste mi fuerza, mi risa, mi corazón. La vida no será la misma sin ti, pero tu espíritu vivirá en todo lo que haga. Te llevaré conmigo siempre. Pito will always be remembered as a wonderful father, husband, grandfather and great friend to Carol and I.  Zorida and Pasquel are our "Machatunim" An affectionate  yiddish word for my daughter Andrea Bidot in laws. 
He will be sorely missed.
