Patrick John Lonergan, 78, of Tampa, FL passed away peacefully on June 20, 2018 surrounded by his family. Patrick is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Cheryl Elaine Wilson Lonergan of Tampa, FL; his children Cathy Ann Henry of Mooresville, NC and Charles Patrick Lonergan of Dade City, FL; their spouses Billy Carse Henry, Jr., and Grace Cozart Lonergan; his five grandchildren Cassidy Nicole Ricono, Cody Patrick Lonergan, Christopher Brandon Henry, Jonathan Joseph Henry, Megan Diane Lonergan and Gabriel Aleman; their significant others Gregory Richard Ricono, Erika Jordan Puglisi and Taylor Nicole Henry; and a large, extended family. Patrick was preceded in death by his father Charles Lonergan and mother Martha Tarver Wilson Lonergan.
Patrick was born on January 4, 1940 in Houston, TX. He lived in Brownsville, TX and Cleveland, OH before moving to Tampa, FL in 1960 where he met his soulmate Cheryl shortly thereafter. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1962 and served on the U.S.S Norfolk during the Cuban Blockade. Patrick was later a part of the commissioning crew on the U.S.S Richard E Byrd, Guided Missile Destroyer during the Vietnam era, until he was Honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. Patrick and Cheryl were married in 1962 in Tampa, FL. He graduated from Lakewood High School in Cleveland, OH and attended Hillsborough Community College and the University of Tampa. Patrick was a Florida Building Contractor and master carpenter who designed and built two homes for his family. Patrick and Cheryl were former owners of Lonergan’s Silent World and Inland Sea, as well as built custom aquariums. He designed and donated a large aquarium for The University of Tampa Science Department. He later founded The Door Doctor Company and worked for 35 years until recently turning the business over to his son Charles.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, sailing and woodworking but most of all spending time with his family which were the true loves of his life.
