
On Tuesday June 16, 2020 Captain Raymond O. McDonald, Jr., loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at the age of 94. Ray was born on February 17, 1926 in Tampa, Florida to Raymond and Martha McDonald. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in June, 1943. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, beginning his 34 years of service in the North Atlantic abroad the USS Carpellotti (APD-136) before transferring to the Navy Reserve. On June 4, 1949, he married the love of his life, Lucille Normandeau. They raised two sons, Bruce and Alan and a daughter, LuAnn.
Ray graduated from Duke University, where he majored in Math and later received a degree in business administration from the University of Tampa. He started a long banking career with Exchange National Bank of Tampa and later held several executive positions with other financial institutions. He always said that his greatest accomplishments were marrying the love of his life, raising their family, and sharing fun times together with so many of their friends. He was active in numerous area civic organizations including The United Way, Chamber of Commerce, The American Red Cross and Rotary Club. He was known for his kind and compassionate spirit.
Ray was preceded in death by his father Ray and mother Martha as well as his loving wife, Lucille. He is survived by his three children, Bruce (Dawn), Alan, and LuAnn Riesdorph (Richard), his grandchildren Christopher, Alicia, Gregory, and Lynn and great grandchildren, Harper and Logan.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 20th. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Catholic Charities or A Kid’s Place of Tampa Bay. Funeral arrangements were made by Blount & Curry Funeral Home Garden of Memories.
