Robert was born on January 8, 1951, in Miami, Florida, to the late Rudy and Savina Fischer. He was a lifelong learner who valued education and personal growth. Robert earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Jacksonville University and later earned a Bachelor of Technology degree from the University of North Florida.
Robert lived a life filled with adventure, generosity, and a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, riding his motorcycle, reading, listening to classical music, and, above all, spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Travel was one of Robert's greatest passions, whether he was chasing the next big catch, exploring new places, or visiting family and friends. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for conversation. His stories, sense of humor, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Robert was a passionate advocate for recreational fishing and conservation. He was an original charter member of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Tampa Chapter, as well as a charter member of both the Tampa Bay Fly Fishing Club and the St. Petersburg Fly Fishing Club. He dedicated countless hours to introducing others to the joy of fishing and mentoring fellow anglers. His commitment to the fishing community earned him many awards and the respect and admiration of those who shared his passion.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia A. Fischer; his son, Mark T. Van Nortwick and wife, Angela; his daughter, Wendy M. Davis and husband, Steve; his brother, Steve Fischer and wife, Heather; his brothers-in-law, Blane Hennigan and wife, Janet, and Danny Hennigan and wife, Brenda; and his beloved grandchildren, Austin Davis and wife, Julie, Ryan Van Nortwick and wife, Cayla, Aubree Van Nortwick, and Garrett Davis and wife, Keely. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Robert's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, generosity, love of family, and passion for the outdoors. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Blount & Curry Funeral Home – Carrollwood Chapel. The family invites everyone to join them for a reception with refreshments immediately following the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to a fishing conservation organization or a charity of your choice in Robert's honor.
