Robert Wayne Millican

Bob was born in Munford, Tennessee to Willard Astor Millican and Nancy Lena Sawyer on September 18, 1935. Bob was the third of five children. He grew up in Memphis, where he graduated from Humes High School in 1953 in the class with Elvis Presley. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Tennessee Air National Guard for 11 years.

He married Marjorie Jean Pryor on July 1, 1955, in Memphis, Tennessee. They spent their honeymoon in Florida and loved it here. So, in 1963 after starting a family, Jean and Bob moved to Tampa where he worked in banking and finance until the early 1970s. Around 1975, Bob started working at the county jail. About two years later, he was personally recruited by Sheriff Malcolm Beard and then served as a Hillsborough County Deputy Sheriff for 25 years. He retired in January 2000.

He was a founding member of Christ Community Church where he served as a deacon and treasurer. In his later years, he was a member of Exciting Idlewild Baptist Church where he served as an usher.

He was a strong Christian man who deeply loved his family and treasured spending time with them. He was a huge fan of the Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, watching every game. In his youth, he boxed and played football for Humes High School. In Florida, he played softball in his banking league.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Jean, his children Wayne (Beth), Linda, and Teresa (Kelly). He has four grandchildren: Craig (Samantha), Doug (Amy), Sean (Cassie), and Brian. He has four great-grandchildren: Fischer, Hunter, Gentry, and Weston. He is predeceased by one grandchild, Kayla.

Bob is survived by his siblings Willard Eugene, Roy Earl (Anna Jo), and Mary Lanita (Paul). He is predeceased by his brother, James Edward. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for the family will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Exciting Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd, Lutz, FL 33548.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Exciting Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd, Lutz, FL 33548.
