93, of Temple Terrace passed away December 1, 2018 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margaret Beck Langston; children, Marilyn Swanson (Ed) of Temple Terrace, Dennis Langston (Bridget) of Thonotosassa and Cynthia Schwab of Temple Terrace; sisters, Isabel Cox of Tampa and Harriett Thompson (Bo) of Montgomery, AL. Survivors also include grandchildren, Aimee Lake (Kevin), Travis Swanson (Jessica), Jason Langston (Jami), Robert Schwab (Martha), Jillian Nantz (Joshua), Tambry Schwab and 12 great-grandchildren who affectionately call him Poppey, Grandpa and Great-grampy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aimee Raymond of Moulen, France, a WWI bride who married his father, Lloyd Langston, Sr., a soldier from Kentucky. Also preceded in death by his brothers, Lloyd Langston, Jr., Alfred Langston, Paul Langston and sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Goff.
His family moved to Tampa from his birthplace, Long Branch, NJ when he was just 4 months old. He attended local schools including Hillsborough High School. In 1943, he joined the Navy with several high school friends and served in the Pacific Ocean theater during World War II as a Water Tender third class. After discharge from the Navy, he returned to the family business, Langston’s Garage, started by his dad, on Florida Avenue in 1925. Under his leadership, the business thrived and moved to its present location on Hwy 301 in 1970 as Langston’s Used Auto Parts. In his later years, he looked forward each day to a 5:30pm call from his son or grandson, updating him on the business.
He was a 33rd Degree Mason, member of Egypt Temple Shrine, a member of the Hillsborough Lodge 25 and the Scottish Rite. Throughout his lifetime, he was involved as a member of the Egypt Shriners, in the Active Patrol, Honor Patrol and Jesters. He served for thirteen years as the Treasurer of Egypt Temple. In retirement, he was honored as Treasurer Emeritus surrounded by a lifetime of friends and associates who worked together to support the Shriner’s Children Hospitals.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, December 6th from 4pm-6pm followed by a Masonic service. A Memorial Service will be Friday, December 7 at 1pm. Both will be held at Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Chapel, 12690 N 56th St, Temple Terrace, FL 33617.
A Navy honor guard service and entombment will immediately follow the funeral service at Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 N US Hwy 301, Thonotosassa, FL 33592.
