Roland Hans Salek

Roland Hans Salek, 78, of Tampa, Fl. passed on Thanksgiving, November, 23, 2023. Roland was born in Vienna, Austria on August 21, 1945 to Karl & Hedwig (Hedy) Salek, both of whom predeceased him. The family travelled from Austria to the British Isles and then Ireland, eventually immigrating to the United States by the time Roland was 7. Because Karl Salek was a circus performer, the family travelled extensively throughout The United States and Canada, finally settling in Sarasota, Fl. where Roland attended Fruitville Elementary and graduated from Riverview High School, class of 1964.

In the summer of 1967, while working as an orderly at Sarasota Memorial Hospital to earn money for college, Roland met the love of his life, Mary Wierichs. After marrying on December 26, 1968, the couple moved to Tampa to attend U.S.F. with Roland graduating with a B.A. in history.

Roland worked a variety of jobs until he discovered a love of and aptitude for computers, culminating in a job at Verizon Data Services from which he retired on disability in 2002.

In spite of having multiple health problems throughout his adult years, Roland never lost his love of life and zest for living. A member of Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, he wore a religious medal of the BVM close to his heart from 1968 until his death. He loved his family & friends. He enjoyed food & drink, travel & cruising, puzzles & puns.

Roland is survived by his wife, Mary, his cousin, Sylvia Lomot of Sallingberg, Austria, his brothers-in-law, William Wierichs & Said Sinai, his sisters-in-law, Pat Wierichs, Kathy Way & Carol Sinai, plus her children Iden Sinai, Sarah Sinai Wilde & Mina Sinai High. He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins & dear friends, among them Randy Stephenson, Ron Thompson, Symphony O'Keefe, Tom Leahy & Bobbi Lette.

A visitation will take place on from 4-7pm on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Blount and Curry Carrollwood Funeral Home located at 3207 W. Bearss Ave Tampa, FL. 33618.

A Funeral Mass will take place the following morning at 11am at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church located at 10110 N Central Ave, Tampa, FL 33612.
