She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jack and sons Larry and Doug, and daughter Susan Melton. Survivors include her son Paul (Gloria), daughter Pamela Labadie (Denis), and Lea Heyer (John), 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her mother Blanche Missouri Kennedy, father Thomas Wilson, and brother Joe Wilson (Juanita).
Sara was most referred to by family and friends as “Mimi”. She never wanted to be called grandma because that would take away from her youthfulness, but nevertheless she loved being a grandmother. Mimi had the distinct ability to make each one of her grandchildren believe they were her favorite. She was a dearly loved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, wife, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend to so many. All that truly knew her loved her for the way she made herself present to each one of them. She had a way of making others feel comfortable and loved in her presence and after leaving her feeling like your day would be a better one for knowing her.
Sara was raised Protestant and converted to Catholicism after marrying her husband Jack who was a devout Catholic. After studying the faith for 7 years, she too became Catholic. She never met a Catholic and took her step into the Church seriously. She was a devoted Christian and Catholic who lived her faith and believed in helping those less fortunate or in need.
She will be remembered for her many talents as an artist and a skilled seamstress. She was a true southern belle that loved make-up and fashion and took pride in herself and never left the house without her lipstick on. She believed looking good aided in feeling good and was an essential part of her day.
Sara was afflicted with many illnesses throughout her adult life, of which some would say was more than her share. She bravely offered her many physical sufferings to God in hope to help others. Her legacy lives on in her close nit family and it meant a lot to her that her Catholic faith was lived out and passed on to her family. It was her faith that sustained her through many trials, and she said near the end of her life that hardships is what make your faith stronger. She was fragile in appearance, but strong to have taken the journey she had with such grace and bravery.
She will be forever missed and loved by all who knew her, especially her family and close friends. She promised to pray for us in heaven and always be with us in spirit, until we meet again in heaven. God rest her soul!
Thank you for being a part of her journey!
