Sharon was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Bruce and Hester Ferrell on December 14, 1941, and was the only daughter of three children. Sharon attended both Weir High School and Fairmont Senior High School. After graduation, she went on to attend Fairmont State University, and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. While teaching in Dover, Delaware, she met and married now Retired Colonel Daniel Ruskiewicz on October 8, 1967. Sharon devoted the early years of their marriage to rearing their 3 children, volunteering in the children’s classrooms and military life. Eventually Sharon spent 20 years teaching kindergarten and first grade, and was honored by Hillsborough County Schools to become Teacher of the Year for Dickinson Elementary School in 1999.
Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Hester Ferrell; brother, James Ferrell; daughter, Kristen Ruskiewicz Walters and son-in-law, Frank Walters Jr.
Sharon is survived by her beloved husband, Dan; daughter, Robin Johnson and husband, Leigh (Skip); and son, Jon Daniel Ruskiewicz and wife Jennifer; brother Dr. Robert Ferrell and wife, Jan Ferrell; and sister-in-law, Valerie Sheppard. Sharon has 7 grandchildren: Olivia, Fender, Parker, Austin, Brendan, Ashlynn and Landon.
Visitation will begin at 2pm, Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Blount and Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood located at 3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, Fl 33618, followed by a memorial service at 3pm. There will be a reception immediately following the service at Carrollwood Country Club, 13903 Clubhouse Drive, Tampa, FL 33618.
Sharon’s final resting place will be at Beechwood Cemetery in Middlebourne, West Virginia. Arrangements will be made through Furbee Funeral Home, Middlebourne, West Virginia.
