Stanley Lee Williams, affectionately nicknamed “T”, was born on May 9, 1938 in DeLand, Florida to James Williams and Roselee Henry-Williams. Stanley spent some of his early years living and working in different parts of Florida including, Barberville, Bunnell, Sanford and Tampa.
Diligent and proud, Stanley was a hardworking man, spending most of his adult career as a longshoreman for the Tampa Maritime Association - International Longshoremen’s Association, where he later retired.
In his heyday, Stanley was a gentleman and a true fashion icon. He was very meticulous about how he looked and presented himself. No matter where he went, he was always smelling good - Grey Flannel was his signature cologne. Always “sharp as a tack”, “as clean as a whistle” and “dressed to the “T” as they used to say back in the day which we suppose that’s where his nickname derived. Stanley enjoyed sports, particularly professional boxing, professional basketball and football. He also loved to go fishing, something he used to do often with his brother Wilbert. Stanley loved R&B music. Two of his all-time favorite musicians were James Brown and B.B. King.
Stanley was an amazing cook and he loved to eat. He was a magician in the kitchen and could prepare almost anything. Sometimes with minimal ingredients, he made the most scrumptious meals and somehow, he even made most vegetables taste good! Some of his favorite meals to prepare were, fresh-water fish and catfish, smothered and fried chicken, sirloin steaks and BBQ ribs. Grilled meat was also one his specialties and it didn’t matter what kind of meat it was, as long as it involved his special seasonings, a grill, some charcoal and BBQ Sauce. In his own right, Stanley was a “master chef” and his culinary skills were amazingly impeccable!
Stanley is survived by his children: Sonya Leonard; Michelle Williams-Sakala; Jonathan Williams, Vernita Gullette; and LaTosha Gullette: Also survived by his siblings: Wilbert Williams; Jennie Lee Williams-Cadore, Berthenia Williams-Bobb; Charles Williams and a magnitude of relatives including nieces and nephews; cousins; grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
Stanley is preceded by his eldest son Carl Williams; his eldest sister Juanita Williams-Barkley; his elder brothers James Williams, Jr.; Andrew Williams; Frank Williams and his youngest brother Leroy Williams
Stanley was truly one of and kind and he will be missed.
