Susie was born Susan Shay Morrill at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk CT, on October 13, 1959, to DeWitt C. Morrill and the late Jane Ball Morrill of Darien CT. She attended The Thomas School in Rowayton, CT, Darien High School, and Hollins College, Roanoke VA, from which she graduated in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in history. Her years at Hollins included a semester with Hollins Abroad in London, England, sparking a love of travel both abroad and in the U.S.
Upon graduating from Hollins, Susie moved to Atlanta GA where she worked as Vice President and Office Manager for the FJB Corporation, a real estate development firm. There she met her husband of 30 years, Clay Carter Wommack, Sr.
For the past 10 years, Susie was an assistant teacher of pre-kindergarten at Academy at the Lakes, Land-o-Lakes, FL. Prior to that, she taught pre-school at Grace Episcopal Church in Tampa. She was a most highly regarded teacher, respected by her colleagues and adored by the many children and parents whose lives were so positively impacted by her nurturing manner and love.
Most importantly, Susie was a devoted wife and mother to her two children, a loving daughter and sister, and dear friend to many. Family, friends and colleagues remember especially her winsome beauty; warm, endearing voice, her humor with its subtle comic touch, and the empathy that made her so sensitive to the needs of others.
Susie is survived by her husband Clay Carter Wommack, Sr and their children,Clay Carter Wommack,Jr. of Orlando FL and Jane Ball Wommack of Tampa, FL ; her father, DeWitt C. Morrill of Southbury CT ; sisters Marian Morrill and Judy Morrill, both of New York City; two nieces, Elizabeth Graumlich and Abigail Fisher; three nephews, Robbie, Will and Jack Taylor; mother-in-law Jane Wommack; sister-in-law Betty S.W. Graumlich; brothers-in-law Chip Graumlich, William Fisher and Randall Taylor; and all the many members of the Wommack, Ball and Morrill families who share the deep sadness of her untimely passing.
A memorial service is to be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 15102 Amberly Dr. Tampa, Fl on August 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor two of her most passionate missions that foster the development of younger children both locally and the remote islands of the Caribbean:
