Susie Lee Howard, age 98, of Tampa, Florida passed away peacefully during the early hours on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Born January 23, 1927, in Wichita Falls, Texas, she was the daughter of the late John Wallace and Susie Still.
Susie Lee met Charles Wayne Howard at First Baptist Church, where they attended a youth group. They were married in 1949 in Wichita Falls after Charles completed Texas Tech with a degree in business administration majoring in accounting. The early years of their marriage challenged them with Wayne being called into the Army during the Korean conflict, stationed in St Louis, Missouri and then to Fort Lewis, Washington until his honorable discharge in 1952. They returned to Dallas, Texas and started their family having their son, David. Settling in San Angelo and having their daughter, Debra, they called this home for the next sixteen years. They moved a few more times, to accommodate Charles’ career. In 1970, Charles moved to Grinnell, Iowa and Susie and the children stayed in Texas to afford David the opportunity to stay with his graduating class of 1971. She moved the family to Iowa to reunite her family and lastly moved to Tampa, Florida where Charles retired.
Susie to great pride in caring for her husband, children and the home. She was known by all people to be a caring, compassionate person living by the Golden Rule of treating others the way you would want to be treated. She loved to play cards and board games with her family. She was an excellent Bridge player and was part of many groups. Even after she stopped playing in her weekly games, she was often asked to be a substitute well into her 90's.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles of 69 years (2018) and her daughter, Debra Sue Howard (2022).
She will be remembered and missed by her son, David and his wife Melanie, her granddaughters, Jessica and Sarah and her great grandson, Kai.
Family and friends will gather for her funeral service on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 10am at Blount and Curry Funeral Home, Garden of Memories, 4207 E Lake Avenue, Tampa.
