Born and raised in Tampa, Tommy was a true Florida native who carried his love for the outdoors into every part of his life. A 1994 graduate of Chamberlain High School, he went on to build a strong and respected career as co-owner of R.L. Mathews Quality Roofing and Construction Services. Through his work, he not only helped build homes but also lasting relationships within his community.
Tommy was an avid outdoorsman who found his greatest peace and joy in God’s creation. Whether he was casting a line at sunrise, hunting in the quiet of the woods, or catching waves along the coast, he felt most at home outside. His love for nature was matched only by his deep faith and devotion to his church family at Grace Family Church (Carrollwood Campus), where he found strength, fellowship, and purpose.
Above all, Tommy was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend. He cherished time spent with his family, leading with love, laughter, and unwavering support. His presence was a steady anchor, and his legacy lives on in the lives he touched so deeply.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lovett Mathews, who passed in October 2006.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Andrea Mathews (Alford); his daughter, LeeAnn Mathews; his son, Jackson Mathews; his mother, Lorraine Mathews; his brother, Robert “Bobby” Mathews and wife Stephanie; his nephew, Trey Mathews; his niece, Savannah Mathews; and his aunt, Sandra Mathews Ray and husband Dan Ray. Each of them carries forward his spirit of faith, strength, and love for family.
A service to celebrate Tommy’s life will be held on Friday, May 22, at Grace Family Church, 5100 W. Waters Ave., Tampa, Florida 33634. Family visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Tommy’s memory to Grace Family Church (gfcflorida.com), honoring the place that meant so much to him.
Tommy’s life was a testament to faith, hard work, and the beauty of a life lived close to both family and the outdoors. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
