Virgie L. Canty

Ms. Virgie L Canty, 93, born in Santee, S.C until the mid-fall of 1962, when she moved to West Hartford, Connecticut to pursue work. She resided in Connecticut for over 60 years, until February 08, 2023, when she then relocated to Florida.

My mom loved the LORD, she enjoyed being in the house of GOD, praising, praying, and singing songs. Being one of the oldest members at her congregation, URBAN HOPE Refuge Church Ministry in West Hartford, she was known to all as Mother Virgie. Her faith kept her strong and will forever be cherished by those who were touched by her presence, her values, her compassion, and words of daily wisdom.

Ms. Virgie was preceded in death by her parents, James Canty and Rosa Lee Gibbs Canty, and sibling Rebecca Canty Stephens and Veronica C. Dubose (Jesse), all of Santee, SC.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Jacqueline E Canty (Tampa), 2 grandsons, Myron-Christopher Canty (Jacksonville) and Jonathan R. Canty (Tampa), 6 great-grandchildren, Myra, Myya, Elijah, Nyasiah, Royale and Reo, 1 great-great granddaughter. Survived by her siblings, Sarah M. Canty, James Canty Jr (Vera), Isaac Canty (Ida), Eddie Canty (Lula) all of Tampa and Bertha Gaillard (Charles) Santee, SC., 21 nieces and nephews, a host of great nieces and nephews. A host of loyal friends, and the many church members from across the state and city.

Shared a special bond of loyalty with her Connecticut Family that she loved and known for over 60 years, Richard and Nancy Gitlins, their sons Jeff (Carolyn), Michael (Chrissy), David (Stephanie), and their grandchildren…the Squire Family, their daughters, Abby Pollack (her husband), Emily (her husband), Lizzy (her husband), their children and grandchildren.

A visitation for Virgie will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 11:30 am with a funeral service beginning at 12 noon at Blount & Curry Funeral Home at Garden of Memories, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610. A committal service will follow at 1:00 pm at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 East Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33610.
