W. Mark Ellwood, age 56, of Tampa, Florida passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 after a two-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Mark was born on September 22, 1966 in Sunbury, PA. The family moved to Long Island, NY in 1969. He went to Mattituck High School where he made All-County wrestling, played the bass guitar, and had an internship at Plum Island. He spent most of his time on the water scuba diving and boating. He went to several colleges, most notably the University of Cortland where he was a member of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. All who knew Mark say he was a great guy who was always fun to be around and had an infectious smile.
Mark moved to Florida in 1992, married his wife Darlene in 1994, and had three beautiful children (Katelyn 27, Victoria 23, and Joshua 14). Mark returned to college in 2018 to further his career and be an example for his children. He received an MBA with a specialization in Data Analytics from Saint Leo University. Mark has worked in Auto Claims at State Farm for the past twenty years, his last position being in the Special Investigations Unit as a project specialist. Mark is described by his coworkers as being a hard worker, a team player, and a good man.
Mark, more than anything else, lived for his family. He enjoyed being a husband and a father. He loved family vacations at Bonnet Creek, spending time at the beach, biking, and long walks hand-in-hand with his wife. He loved watching movies, playing video games, and was an avid football fan.
Mark is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia (Hill) Ellwood in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Pandolfo) Ellwood; his daughter, Katelyn and her husband Hayden Elias-Rodriguez; his daughter, Victoria; and his son, Joshua. He is also survived by his father, Willian Ellwood; brother, Brian Ellwood; sister, Amy Ziccardy and her husband Gene, and their daughter Sydney.
The family will receive friends from 5-6pm on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Blount and Curry Funeral Home located at 3207 W. Bearss Ave. Tampa, FL. 33618. Following the visitation there will be a wake service at 6pm.
A funeral mass to celebrate Mark's life will take place at 4pm on Friday, October 28, 2022 at St. Paul Catholic Church located at 12708 N. Dale Mabry Hwy. Tampa, FL. 33618.
