

William, Bill as he was known to his loving family and many friends, came from humble beginnings. Born in Charleston, SC Bill grew up throughout the South doing what he could to contribute to his family, which created a work ethic that would be a hallmark of his life.
After high school, Bill volunteered for the US Army, serving with distinction in Vietnam and Europe. After Bill’s active service he would join the Army Reserves and later, the Alabama National Guard, achieving the rank of Major General. One of his proudest moments was when his son followed in his military footsteps.
In civilian life Bill pursued a college education while holding down a series of jobs to provide for his family. He eventually achieved his master’s degree at age 50. A lifelong interest in engines led to Bill’s career as a quality control engineer for Mercedes Benz.
Bill was a predeceased by his loving wife, Charleen, who he adored. They enjoyed traveling but the real joy of their life was spending time with their granddaughter, Savannah. Bill was also a very spiritual person who served the Lord with his whole heart, demonstrating his faith through acts of kindness to others. Survived by his daughter Gwendolyn Norton (Michael) and son William C Morris (Shannon) and granddaughter Savannah Morris as well as by his sister, Thelma Cantelmo.
