Billy " Roy " Kovar

Billy Roy Kovar (better known as “Roy”) passed away at the age of 87. Roy was born in Circleville, Texas on July 11, 1931 to Olga Mazac Kovar and Willie Kovar. He graduated from Thrall High School in 1950. He played football as a tackle throughout high school and was all District Tackle. He married his high school sweetheart Billie Westmoreland, on April 14, 1951.

On November 2, 1951, he enlisted in the USAF. After basic training at Lackland AFB he was sent to Sheppard AFB for training in aircraft mechanics. He became a mechanic instructor for a couple years, then was sent to Thule AFB in Greenland. Before going to Greenland he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. After serving in Thule for one year, he was honorably discharged.

He and his wife Billie returned to the Taylor area. They were blessed with two lovely daughters. He loved his wife and family very much. He was always there ready to help with anything they needed. He had several jobs such as farming, post office, ranching, Circle B Riding Stables, then finally settled into owning his own business. (ROY KOVAR TEXACO, INC- A FULL SERVICE STATION for 40 years). During that time he was also into real estate and many other business ventures.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen Fain and husband J.D., Martha Pourghoraishi, several grandchildren, Larry Murray and wife Beth, Ashlie Lay and husband Anthony ,Chance McGuire, Haley McGuire, Dominic Proby and wife Elyssa, and great grandchildren Hannah, Parker, Ceren, Gracie, Gibson, Ammill, and Lisanna one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and many nephews and nieces. Roy is preceded in death by his wife Billie Kovar,one sister and brother-in-law: Mary Ann and Jack Dodd.

Roy enjoyed country music dancing and square dancing for many years. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Traveling was a real pleasure and he enjoyed seeing the USA by car, by motorhome, and flying. Funeral services will be held at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. Visitation will be Tuesday 2/12/19 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and the services will be Wednesday 2/13/19 at 10:00 AM. At Condra Funeral Home Chapel Burial will be in the St. Mary’s cemetery on Thorndale Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund- mailing address is 408 Washburn St., Taylor Texas 76574
