

Don Thaler, age 77, of Bartlett passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015. Don grew up in Thorndale, where he met and married his high school sweetheart Peggy Sue Becker. Don attended mortuary school and worked with EMT services in Austin. In the ‘60’s he and his family moved to Bartlett where Don worked at Goodnight Funeral Home. Don was also a real entrepreneur. He owned the Village Shoppe Dry Goods Store, the Red & White Grocery, and with his partners, Johnny and Leroy, owned the Village Antique Mall. He was also an active member of the Bartlett School Board, the City Council, and his Church Council. Don coached Little League, was a Luther League Sponsor, and spent lots of time traveling with his wife, family, and friends. In his retirement, Don and Peggy moved to their country home where they raised farm animals, had many pets, and loved collecting antiques, of which clocks were his passion. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Minnie Thaler; his brother, Norman “Cooper” and his wife of 56 years, Peggy.
He is survived by daughters, Donna and husband Neal Dawson and Lori and husband Ken Matlock, and his grandchildren, Megan & Kyle Spinn, Rachel & Mike Wiechman, and Meredith & Corey Brown.
Services will be held on Wednesday September 16, 2015 at 10 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bartlett. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Neal Dawson, Kenneth Matlock, Mike Wiechman, Kyle Spinn, Corey Brown, Doug Thaler, and Bryon Thaler.
Arrangements are under the direction of Goodnight Funeral Home.
