OBITUARY

Dorothy Edna Heintze

January 21, 1922October 23, 2013

Dorothy Edna Williams Lange Heintze was born on January 21st, 1922 in Rockford Illinois to Charles and Lillian Korp Williams. She died on October 23rd, 2013 in Huntsville Alabama. As a young child her family moved to Maywood, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago.) These were depression years and Dorothy’s dad hoped to find work in a bigger city. After high school she worked as a clerk in a grocery store. At a Walther League party she met her husband to be – Theodore (Ted) Lange. They were married in 1942. Ted’s first divine call as a Lutheran school teacher was to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Chicago. Over the years Ted accepted calls to Leavenworth, Kansas; Golgotha, Chicago; Harlingen, Thorndale, and Spring Texas. In all these congregations Dorothy was very active in church groups – Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and singing in the choir. She also did an excellent job of substitute teaching in the Lutheran Schools and being a helpmate by planning and doing arts and crafts for Ted’s classes. Dorothy’s heart was in her work with Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was present at the LWML organizational convention in 1942 in Chicago. At her death she was still an honorary member of St. Paul LWML. LWML District and National Conferences were mountain top experiences for her. Dorothy was also an active member of the VFW Auxiliary. In every place she lived, people were inspired by her Christina witness. Dorothy lived in Thorndale for a few years after Ted died in 1976. Then she married Ed Heintze and moved to Austin. Dorothy and Ed were two of the very first members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cedar Park, Texas. Some years after Ed’s death, Dorothy returned to live in Thorndale again. Her last years were spent living in Huntsville, Alabama near her daughter Joyce and family. They took her to church and bible class every Sunday. Dorothy was a loving mother, homemaker, baker and seamstress. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted Lange, her second husband Ed Heintze, one brother and one sister. She is survived by three daughters: Eileen Schneider (Reinhard) of Caldwell, Texas, Joyce McClure (Dexter) of Huntsville, Alabama; and Jeannette Gerth (Eddy) of Texarkana, Texas, nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Also surviving are three step-children; Sarah Beard (Tim), Jane Becker (Dennis), and Dale Heintze (Melissa) along with their children and grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor on Thursday October 31st from 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held on November 1st at 10am in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Thorndale, with burial following in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul LWML or a charity of your choice.
