

Elsie Mae Sladek, age 98, of Taylor passed away on Wednesday, October 30th in her home. Elsie was born on January 27, 1915 to Charles and Karolina Hurta in Taylor, Texas. Elsie married Lambert John Sladek on December 6, 1937. Elsie was always a blessing to her children and grandchildren. She was always willing to try anything new, often leading rather than following. She had a knack for sewing and crocheting and made the best kolaches, bread and canned pickles. Elsie enjoyed playing bingo and dominos with many friends and family. She shared a great sense of humor and enjoyed the company of all. She was blessed with a strong and healthy life until her later years.
Elsie worked alongside her husband, farming for many years near Thrall. She and Lambert left farming in the late 1950’s for Taylor where she worked for Eulenfield Produce. She then went to work for Taylor Bedding Company where she worked for many years before retiring to her home in Taylor.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Lambert Sladek, a sister and five brothers. She is survived by seven sisters and three sisters-in-law.
Elsie was blessed with four children, Dorothy (Arthur) Carter and Rueben (Sherry) Sladek of Taylor; Billy (Linda) Sladek of Hutto; and Howard (Brenda) Sladek of Lott. Her grandchildren are Raymond Pokorny, Charlie Pokorny, Chris Ehrmann, Arthur Carter Jr., Dennis (Judy) Carter, Danny Carter, Ronnie Sladek, Jason Sladek, Brandon (Joy) Sladek, Bradley (Teresa) Sladek, Ryan (Courtni) Sladek, Megan Sladek, and fiancée Brian Wheaton. Her great-grandchildren are Grant (Ashlee) Carter and Angie Carter Ball.
Pallbearers will be Raymond Pokorny, Charlie Pokorny, Dennis Carter, Ronnie Sladek, Jason Sladek, Brandon Sladek, Bradley Sladek, Arthur Carter Jr. and Ryan Sladek.
The family wishes to express their special thanks to Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Highway 95 Church of Christ.
Visitation will be from 6pm until 8pm on Saturday, November 2nd at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Sunday, November 3rd at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylor with the Rev. B. G. Niemtschk officiating. Interment will follow at Taylor City Cemetery.
