

In March 1943 Benavides had the distinction of participating in the military action in the Third Army under General George Smith Patton. Benavides marched with Patton through Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. By the time the war was over he was in Czechoslovakia. Benavides received commendations for overseas combat, good conduct, and serving in active duty. In addition to the Europe-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Nieves, whom he was married to for 35 years.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. His caregivers were his niece, Maria and husband Daniel Salazar of Taylor, and his grandson, Jessie Soliz and wife Sharon of Elgin.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 22, 2016 from 6pm-8pm at Condra Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7pm. Mass will be held on Thursday June 23, 2016 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
