On August 25, 1954 Jimmie R. Chovanec was born to Adela Roznovsky Chovanec and Rudolph Chovanec. He grew up on a farm 5 miles south west of Granger. He attended Ss. Cyril & Methodius School for 8 years and afterward Granger High School for 4 years. He then worked at various jobs including 3 years at a used clothing store in Bryan where he made some good friends. After our father died he gave home health care to our mother for some 15 years after which her condition deteriorated to the point where she had to be placed into a nursing home.
My brother then got a job at choice Bagging LTD where he worked for some 8 years. During the last few years of his life he was unemployed, but he began drawing his social security retirement at the age of 62.
He liked to work, his hobbies included gardening, cooking, reading and the outdoors. He was an avid Beatles fan and in his younger years dreamed of playing the drums like Ringo Starr.
Tragedy struck and he was found dead at his residence on January 28 by the Taylor Police Department. He apparently died while sitting at the kitchen table reading from the Holy Bible. May he now be in heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, numerous aunts and uncles, and a few cousins. He is survived by his brother, Frank Chovanec; a few aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Friday February 7, 2020 at 3:30 pm at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Granger, TX.
