Dr. John was a rare and inspiring man. He stood tall in the field of nuclear physics. During the later part of the Cold War with Russia he was among the first to devise ways of determining if the Soviet Union had launched nuclear tipped ballistic missiles toward the US.  The company in Austin where he worked as a nuclear physist researched and manfactured the world's most highly respected instrumentation for the Defense Department and for numerous high level research laboratories. 
Later, he helped develop peaceful uses for nuclear materials succeeding in creating systems for weighing coal, diamond mine ore and the levels of liquid glass through 10 feet of solid brick.
Later, he helped stem the tide of childhood lead paint poisoning in America. 
As a man passes from sight many never know of their passing. This man was unique. He was special and he changed the world in many ways. I know this to be true. He helped me find direction and eventually follow up on several of his achievements. He was a guide, a mentor and most of all, he was a friend. 
Though I am  few year late to this post, people need to know that he set in motion events that even enabled laws to be passed in the United States Congress for the benefit of innocent children.

Mike and Martha, I was sorry to hear about your fathers passing Friday.  You have our condolence and sympathy.  I know it hurts to loose a parent, but memories are never lost.  Lean on them in the coming weeks to ease the hurt. I never knew your father but remember the stories and you talking about him.  He sounded like a great person.
